Portugal natural gas contract and safe installation
Short answer: Confirm that mains gas exists and obtain the CUI. A qualified inspection may be required for first supply or material installation/appliance changes.

Network, supplier and CUI

The distribution operator manages the physical network; the supplier manages the commercial contract. The CUI identifies the installation.

When inspection may be required

First supply, a new installation or significant installation/appliance changes can require an authorised EIG inspection. Confirm the actual trigger with the operator and inspector.

Contract and safe activation

Identity, NIF, occupancy evidence, CUI and payment information may be requested. Never remove seals or manipulate a closed valve.

Butane and propane cylinders

Where mains gas is absent, bottled gas may be used. Follow the cylinder manufacturer’s location, ventilation, regulator and hose requirements; do not generalise one fuel rule to every building.

If you smell gas

  • Do not use flames or electrical switches
  • Close the valve and ventilate only if safe
  • Leave the building
  • Call 112 and the network emergency line from outside
