From an Abandoned Renaissance Palace to a Five-Star Thermal Paradise: Palacio de Avellaneda

Imagine being refreshed with healing waters under centuries-old stone arches inside a magnificent Renaissance palace from the early 19th century. The historical Avellaneda Palace, located in the Peñaranda region of Spain, opened its doors as a five-star wellness center after a long period of silence: Castilla Thermal Palacio de Avellaneda.

The hotel, which started to welcome its guests as of August 12, offers both the nobility of the past and the comfort of a modern spa with a total of 80 rooms and suites.

The Story From Warehouse to Luxury Thermal Hotel

Avellaneda Palace was the apple of the eye of the region for centuries. However, when the owners left the palace and headed to the capital, the building was abandoned to its fate over time. The building, which was even used as a warehouse and agricultural area over the years, passed to the Spanish government in the 20th century; Although it has seen various restorations, its door was locked after 2011.

Just as the palace, which had been empty for more than ten years, was about to fall into ruin, the Castilla Thermal project came into play. With the meticulous restoration that started in 2023, the original columns, courtyards and historical texture of the building were carefully preserved and the palace came to life again.

Healing Waters and Spa Experience

The spring water coming out of the palace is an officially registered source of healing. This special water of 20.6 degrees contains approximately 268 milligrams of minerals (especially bicarbonate and calcium) per liter; It is perfect for removing toxins from the body, lightening and renewing.

Spa and Treatments: Special massages and water circuit are active. The starting price for various cures and spa treatments is around 50 € per person and reservations can be made online.

Pools: Outdoor pool open for warm weather; The main thermal pool of the palace is planned to be put into service in the coming months.

Local Flavors, Vineyards and Transportation Notes

When you come here, the experience is not limited to just the spa. Just five minutes away from the hotel lie the world-famous vineyards of Castile and León; A great route to discover local wines and regional cuisine.

Opening Offer: The hotel offers a special discount for the opening. Accommodations, which normally cost 320 € per night, now start from 224 €.

Transportation: Since there are no direct flights to the region, the most practical way is to rent a car. The journey takes approximately 4 hours by car from Porto and 5.5 hours from Lisbon.
