GNR's Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF) seized approximately 400 kilograms of cocaine in the Albarquel region, within the borders of the municipality of Setúbal, on the morning of September 2.

According to the GNR statement, the teams detected suspicious movements during coastal surveillance around the Arrábida Natural Park. Authorities launched an operation involving land and air elements on suspicion that an illegal cargo could be brought ashore by sea.

During the operation, approximately 400 kilograms of cocaine in 10 bales was found and one suspect was detained. GNR reported that the drug was prevented from reaching the illicit market.

In addition to UCCF, the GNR National Traffic Unit, Setúbal Regional Command and Marine Police supported the operation.

Fuel operation in Trafaria is under separate investigation

In a separate operation carried out by GNR in the Trafaria region of Almada on the same day, 198 fuel canisters and two vehicles were seized. Authorities suspect that approximately 4 thousand liters of fuel could be used for logistical support for drug smuggling by sea.
