Armed Attack in Front of Nightclub in Seixal: Two Injured

There were lively hours in the early morning hours in Amora, a district of Seixal just south of Lisbon. Two people were shot in the arms and legs during a gunfight outside a nightclub. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening, they were immediately taken to Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada. Following the incident, Judicial Police (PJ) and PSP teams immediately acted quickly and took over the investigation.

Security Discussions Reignited

As soon as such events occur, local politics does not calm down. The Seixal Socialist Party (PS) wing immediately made a statement, arguing that the local government should now take concrete steps regarding security. Due to increasing concerns in the region, the PS front is preparing an urgent package of measures:

Municipal Police: Establishment of a local constabulary/police force to increase enforcement in public spaces and especially at lively nightlife spots.

Camera Systems: Installation of video surveillance systems in sensitive areas in coordination with security forces.

Night Watchmen: Introducing a night watch system to increase security in neighborhoods and among tradesmen.

Lighting: Strengthening the lighting, especially in parks, pedestrian paths and parking lots that are considered risky.

Seixal PS Political Committee Chairman Samuel Cruz also reacted to the situation and called on the local government, saying, "Security can no longer be an area where we react only after the incident. The City Council has the means to take these steps and we no longer have the luxury of delaying."

Population Grows, Security Pressure Grows

Seixal municipality, which is governed by the communists (CDU) but seeks balance with the PS and PAN coalition, has been growing rapidly with a population of 200 thousand in recent years, according to official data. This latest conflict in the region, which includes large neighborhoods such as Amora, Corroios and Arrentela, was the salt and pepper of the security debates that have recently increased throughout Lisbon. If you remember, recently the Mayor of Lisbon openly expressed his concern about the general security situation in the capital.
