The owner of a trailer loaded with drugs wants the evidence to be annulled.

Interior Minister Luís Neves is in serious trouble these days, and frankly, a new link is added to the chain of scandals every day. While reading Público's special news today, I said "no more". The subject is the famous trailer filled with acetone used in drug production, which was confiscated when Neves was the National Director of the PJ (Judicial Police). The trailer owner's lawyer requested that the evidence be deemed completely invalid on the grounds that it was improperly preserved. Behind the scenes, it's a complete fiasco. The trailer was normally supposed to be kept under direct PJ supervision. However, when there were problems with the initial storage phase at the maritime police shipyard in Seixal (allegedly there was not even a proper document record), they took the cargo and transported it to a private construction company called Construbarcelos. Coincidentally, this company is owned by a contractor who is a close personal friend of Neves and has done personal work for both PJ and Neves himself in the past. Of course, the chain was broken when the trailer was removed from PJ's official custody and given to a private company. Like any defense lawyer who knows his job, lawyer João Martins Leitão immediately caught the weak point: The chain of evidence has been broken, this material can no longer be considered evidence. The man says this is the first time he has seen such a major deviation from procedure in his career. As a matter of fact, SIC Notícias confirms that this critical evidence seized in Operation Pacoba in December 2024 is at risk of going to waste. In fact, it was clear from the beginning of this story that things would come to this, and warnings had been made. While Neves was already struggling with allegations that he underreported his assets and income while he was at the helm of PJ, he was literally cornered when this scandal was added to it. This chaos, which started with that tourist accommodation project carried out without a license on a protected land in Odemira, got out of control and turned into a huge snowball. This is the only thing that has been talked about on TV channels, radios and newspapers for days. The general atmosphere in the public is very clear: Luís Neves no longer has the luxury of "I will make a statement whenever I am ready". He has to answer all the questions as soon as possible, without beating around the bush. Yesterday, former PSD leader Rui Rio summarized the gravity of the incident well while sharing his feelings on the issue. Rio emphasized that this scandal caused the AD coalition in the government and the main party PSD to seriously lose ground. He said that as long as Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and Luís Neves remain silent, the far-right CHEGA will gain the most political benefit from this situation. As a matter of fact, CHEGA has already pressed the button for a parliamentary investigation that will examine Neves' period as PJ director.
