Porto Book Fair returns with a record program
The 13th Porto Book Fair will return to the Palácio de Cristal Gardens from 21 August to 6 September and will include its largest program to date, with more than 200 events, 140 book stands and a special tribute to the famous Portuguese poet Inês Lourenço. The 17-day fair will bring together writers, poets, musicians, artists and publishers in one of Portugal's largest literary events. Entry is free. This year's event honors Porto-born poet Inês Lourenço, who recently received the Gil Vicente Grand Prize for Poetry. The 83-year-old author, whose work has long been inspired by his hometown, will be celebrated with a special program of more than a dozen events, including readings, concerts, talks, performances, film screenings and an exhibition. The main commemoration ceremony will take place on 22 August, and Lourenço will receive a linden tree (Tília de Homenagem) as a souvenir on the fair's Avenida das Tílias (Avenue of Lindens), joining the distinguished list of Portuguese men of letters honored in previous years, including Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Eugénio de Andrade, Manuel António Pina and Sérgio Godinho.
