Temperatures in Portugal may rise up to 12 degrees in two days

IPMA reported that temperatures could rise by 10 to 12 degrees in some parts of mainland Portugal on September 2 and 3. Values reaching 40-42 degrees can be seen in the Tejo Valley, Beira Baixa and Alentejo on Thursday.

Following the cool and sometimes cloudy weather seen in Portugal in recent days, temperatures are expected to rise significantly on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), on September 2 and 3, there may be an increase in maximum temperatures of up to 10 to 12 degrees in some regions. The increase is expected to be more evident within two days, especially in coastal areas.

The highest temperatures in large parts of the country on Thursday are expected to be between 34 and 38 degrees. It is possible for thermometers to show 40-42 degrees in the inner parts south of Serra da Estrela, Tejo Valley, Beira Baixa and Alentejo.

Temperatures are predicted to remain lower in coastal areas. On the southern coast of the Algarve, the increase is expected to be more limited than in other regions, at around 5-6 degrees.

It was reported that IPMA issued a yellow warning for Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre on Thursday, September 3, due to hot weather. Yellow warning indicates that there is a risk for activities due to certain weather conditions.

Following the increase in temperature, a slight decrease is expected on Friday on the west coast and the western half of the mainland. However, estimates are that this decline will not completely undo the sharp increase in the previous days.

PTNewsHub review

While enjoying the beauty of cool weather, the sudden increase in daily temperatures can be challenging, especially for those working outdoors and families with children. This transition is expected to be short-lived; However, in regions where temperatures can rise above 40 degrees, it is necessary to organize daily plans according to hot hours.

Practical knowledge

DGS recommends drinking water regularly on hot days, avoiding direct sun exposure between 11.00-17.00, and paying particular attention to children, the elderly and people with chronic diseases. Children or pets should not be left in the vehicle; IPMA warnings should be followed up to date.
