Police officers are on the streets again in Portugal: PSP is protesting in Porto today

The wage, career and working conditions dispute between police unions and the government in Portugal continues with new protests.

PSP's largest union, Associação Sindical dos Profissionais da Polícia — ASPP/PSP, is holding a demonstration in Porto today.

The union's demands include the reorganization of the career structure, working hours, evaluation system, personnel and equipment shortages, and the implementation of the agreement signed with the government in 2024.

Protests will spread across the country

The demonstration in Porto is part of a wider protest calendar.

While ASPP/PSP is planning actions in different cities, a protest will also be held in Lisbon on October 8.

The union then plans to organize a larger national demonstration that will bring together PSP and GNR workers.

2024 agreement at the center of debate

A significant part of the disagreement between police organizations and the government consists of the regulations following the agreement signed in 2024.

At that time, the risk additional payment was increased by 300 euros.

Unions, on the other hand, argue that the promised reforms regarding other parts of the wage system, career structure and evaluation system have not been completed.

160 euro offer for border police

In recent negotiations, the government offered special supplementary pay for Unidade Nacional de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras — UNEF staff within the PSP.

Payment according to quote initially 160 The euro will be 230 euros as of January 2027.

While six of the seven PSP unions said they were open to continuing negotiations with certain conditions, ASPP/PSP did not accept the offer.

The union criticizes the fact that the UNEF supplement cannot be received together with the existing patrulha supplement and that the same amount is applied to all career categories.

New meeting on September 29

The next negotiation between the government and police organizations will be held on Tuesday, September 29.

The agenda of the meeting includes the reorganization of the career structure in PSP and GNR and working hours.
