Weather Is Deteriorating in Portugal: Yellow Alert Issued for 11 Regions

The sunny and warm weather of August that we are accustomed to is today replaced by a very active storm. If you plan to go out, it is a good idea to take an umbrella with you and be especially careful against the wind; because the sky will be quite confused over most of the country.

The Portuguese Marine and Atmospheric Institute (IPMA) has placed 11 regions on the mainland under a yellow warning due to heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Starting from the North and Spreading to the Center

The adverse weather conditions entered from the northern line in the early hours of the morning, around 06:00. Heavy winds with speeds of up to 90 km/h are expected along with heavy rainfall of 10 to 20 mm per hour in Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto and Aveiro.

In these regions, the storm effect will last until 12.00 noon in Porto and Aveiro, and until 15.00 around Viana do Castelo and Braga.

Pay Attention to Time Intervals in Lisbon and Central Areas

As of 09:00 in the morning, the wave expanded a little more and descended towards the center. Vila Real, Viseu, Leiria, Coimbra and Lisbon are also among the places under yellow alert. Especially those living in the Leiria, Coimbra and Lisbon line should be careful about thunderstorms and sudden floods until 15.00.

In the afternoon, the storm changes its course to the eastern border. Starting from 12:00, there will be very heavy showers around Bragança and Guarda. The warning here is expected to end around 18:00 in the evening.

If you are going to hit the road during the day or have plans to be outdoors, consider the time range of your region and take your steps accordingly.
