A steep fuel price hike awaits drivers in Portugal in the new week. According to the forecast of Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP), the liter price of diesel may increase by approximately 15 cents and that of gasoline by 12 cents in the week of September 7-13. If the prediction comes true, the average price of the two fuel types will rise above 2.10 euros per liter.
Fuel prices in Portugal are expected to rise significantly as of Monday, September 7.
According to the weekly forecast published by ACP on September 4, an increase of 15 cents in the liter price of diesel and 12 cents in gasoline prices is expected.
According to ACP information based on Direção-Geral de Energia e Geologia (DGEG) data, the average liter price of diesel in Portugal on Friday, September 4 was 2,019 euros and the average price of gasoline was 2,022 euros.
If the expected increases are fully reflected at the pump, the average prices in the new week will be:
Diesel: 2,169 €/litre
Gasoline: 2,142 €/litre
is expected to reach the level.
How much difference does it make in a 50 liter tank?
The expected increase will create a significant cost, especially for drivers who fill their tanks completely.
Calculated on a 50 liter tank:
Diesel: 15 cents × 50 liters = 7.50 euro additional cost
Gasoline: 12 cents × 50 liters = 6 euro additional cost
In a 60 liter tank, the difference will be approximately 9 euros for diesel and 7.20 euros for gasoline.
This calculation only shows the impact of the expected price increase per liter on the warehouse cost. The amount the driver will actually pay will vary depending on the price of the station he uses.
Prices may vary from station to station
The figures announced by ACP are an estimate based on average prices across the country.
Since fuel prices in Portugal are determined under free market conditions, the price of the same fuel may vary between different brands, stations and regions.
For this reason, it should not be expected that diesel will be exactly 2,169 euros or gasoline will be 2,142 euros at every gas station on September 7.
At some stations the price may be lower, at others it may be higher.
Estimate may vary
ACP states that weekly forecasts are calculated based on the previous Thursday's closing of raw material prices in international markets.
Therefore, new movements that may occur in international oil and fuel markets may cause final pump prices to differ from the forecast.
However, if the expected increase occurs, drivers will start the new week with one of the steepest weekly fuel price increases in Portugal in recent times.
