Fuel prices are changing in the opposite direction in Portugal: Increase for diesel, discount for gasoline

Drivers in Portugal started the new week with two different price movements. Industry forecasts for the week of September 14-20 indicate an increase of approximately 4 cents in the liter price of diesel and a decrease of approximately 6 cents in the liter price of gasoline.

While the change means a new cost increase, especially for those who use diesel vehicles, one of the more significant discounts of the recent period is on the agenda for gasoline vehicle owners.

While diesel increases by 4 cents, gasoline decreases by 6 cents

According to Automóvel Club de Portugal's forecast based on industry data, for the week of 14–20 September:

Diesel: approx. +€0.04/litre

Gasoline: approx. -€0.06/litre

According to DGEG data, on Friday, September 11, the average liter price of diesel in Portugal was €2,112 and the average liter price of gasoline was €2.10.

If the industry forecast is fully reflected, average prices can be expected to move to approximately €2.15 for diesel and approximately €2.04 for gasoline.

However, actual pump prices vary from station to station.

How much difference is there in one tank of fuel?

The impact of the change on the driver's pocket is more clearly seen depending on the tank size.

When calculated on a 50 liter tank, a 4 cent increase in diesel fuel costs approximately €2 additional cost.

The 6 cent decrease in gasoline prices means savings of approximately €3 for the same amount of fuel.

For a 60 liter tank the difference costs approximately €2.40 additional cost for diesel and approximately €3.60 for gasoline. rises to savings level.

The same price is not applied at all stations in Portugal

One of the points to consider regarding weekly price changes is that fuel prices are free in Portugal.

Weekly increases and decreases announced in the sector are a forecast and an indicator of market direction. It is not mandatory for every station to change the price by the same amount on the same day.

The price of the same fuel may differ even in nearby regions due to brand, region, commercial policy of the station, discount programs and supermarket-related campaigns.

Therefore, comparing DGEG's current pump prices can save money, especially for drivers who will buy large amounts of fuel.
