New online map brings together 234 cultural associations across Portugal
A new online platform designed to help Portugal’s cultural associations find one another and connect has opened with information on 234 organisations from across the country. The National Network of Cultural Associations (RNAC) map shows where associations are based and the cultural fields in which they work. It is open to the public as well as to the organisations themselves.
The network is promoted by Lúcia-Lima, a cultural association based in Cadima, in the municipality of Cantanhede in the Coimbra district. Its president, Johnny Gil, said the RNAC idea took shape after the Covid-19 pandemic, when some associations closed and new ones were established, highlighting a need for better communication and visibility across the cultural sector.
The map could help people moving to another town or travelling around Portugal find nearby cultural organisations. For associations, the goal is to make collaboration, joint events and information-sharing easier. Gil said communication between organisations can still be limited and described the platform as a way to encourage dialogue and cooperation.
The RNAC database is intended to grow as more organisations join. Associations interested in being listed can submit a form through the network’s website. Its longer-term reach will therefore depend on how many groups choose to share their details.
