Palacete Ribeiro da Cunha, which catches my eye with its fascinating Neo-Moorish architecture every time I pass by while walking on the streets of Príncipe Real, is stepping into a brand new story. This 19th century heritage building, which has hosted the Embaixada concept store in recent years, is preparing to open its doors as Maison Barrière Príncipe Real towards the end of the year.
This transformation project, operated by the French luxury accommodation giant Barrière Group, promises a fascinating accommodation experience while respecting the historical texture of the district.
Highlights of the Project
The notable points of the project, which is carried out in partnership with the American company EastBank and the Barrière Group, which has held the ownership of the building for approximately 12 years, are as follows:
Holistic Transformation: The renovation work is not limited to the historical main building. The palace's fascinating inner courtyard, secret gardens, old stables and new buildings to be added to the area are also included in the project.
Phased Development: In the first stage, the hotel section will be opened. In the future, luxury residences, special restaurants, wellness centers and event areas will be added to the project.
Sense of Intimate Luxury: The hotel will offer its guests a home-like yet extremely privileged atmosphere by blending large apartments and private suites with a personalized service approach.
Investment Scale: Although the latest figures for the project, which was planned with an investment of approximately 20 million euros when it was first announced, have not yet been announced, the nature of the resulting work is already exciting.
The Portuguese Journey of the French Barrière Group
For the French Barrière Group, which has 33 casinos, 21 luxury hotels and nearly 200 restaurants, this step is one of the most prestigious links in its growth strategy in Portugal. The group, which entered the country with the Póvoa Casino business and the transformation of Estalagem da Cegonha in Vilamoura, is now putting its signature on one of Lisbon's most popular neighborhoods.
This new venue, where history meets luxury and modern comfort, already looks like it will bring a breath of fresh air to the spirit of Príncipe Real.
