Unfortunately, one of the last things that comes to one's mind while wandering around the lively streets of the city are such dark events. When we look at the incidents that the police have handled and solved recently, one is horrified. A chilling ransom incident that took place in Lisbon last summer was clarified with the meticulous work of the police and the perpetrators were brought to justice.
A Nightmare on the Street and Two Days a Slave
When we look at the history of the incident, the scenario resembles a movie crisis. A 33-year-old foreign national man was stopped and forcibly detained by two people while walking on the street on June 27.
According to the details shared by the Judicial Police (PJ), the victim was held captive at different addresses for two days. During this time, he is repeatedly subjected to physical violence, threats and inhumane treatment. There is a clear demand at stake: a large amount of ransom. After this money is paid by the family or close circle, the man is released, but he has to receive hospital treatment due to the bruises and trauma on his body.
Codename "Taka" and Police Operation
Following the victim's complaint, the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (UNCT) immediately takes over the investigation. In the operation named after "Taka", the official currency of Bangladesh, two Bangladeshi suspects, aged 35 and 43, who organized the captivity, were caught and detained.
The detained suspects were sent to the courthouse to be brought before the judge. The process continues to be carried out meticulously under the coordination of the Lisbon Investigation and Prosecution Department (DIAP). Our greatest wish is to stop such incidents that disturb the peace of the city.
