Two tourism awards from Europe to Lisbon: It was chosen as the best city and cruise destination

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, won two separate awards within the scope of World Travel Awards Europe 2026. The city was chosen first in the categories of Europe's Best City Destination and Europe's Best Cruise Destination.

Awards were given on October 17

The World Travel Awards Europe 2026 ceremony was held in Montenegro on October 17.

Lisbon reinforced its position among Europe's leading city tourism centers with awards in two different categories.

The results were also announced in the Portuguese press in the early hours of October 18.

What features of Lisbon stand out?

Capital city; tarihî mahalleleri, kültürel mirası, gastronomisi, müzeleri ve Tagus Nehri çevresindeki turizm faaliyetleriyle uluslararası ziyaretçilerin ilgisini çekiyor.

Cruise tourism also has a special place in the city's international visitor mobility.

The Lisbon Tourism Association stated that the awards reflect the international appeal of the city and the diversity of its tourism opportunities.

How do rewards affect daily life?

Increasing international visibility in tourism can create economic opportunities for the hotel, restaurant, transportation and service sectors.

However, it also keeps discussions on issues such as the growth of tourism demand, density in the city center and the housing market on the agenda.

Winning a tourism award does not directly mean that rental prices or living costs in the city change.

For Portuguese tourism importance

Lisbon's win in two categories provides a new achievement that Portugal can use in international tourism promotion.

The real economic impact of the awards can be evaluated more accurately with the number of visitors, tourism revenues and sectoral data in the future.
