Fixed fares started on Thursday, October 15 for taxi rides from Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport to certain areas. Under the new system, 16 or 19 euros will be paid depending on the destination for weekday daytime journeys. At nights, weekends and public holidays, the fees increase to 20 and 23 euros. However, driver accreditation and access control have not yet been completed. The system is expected to operate at full capacity in early November.
How much are the new taxi fares?
The protocol signed between the Lisbon Municipality, taxi industry representatives and the airport operator creates two fixed fee zones for trips starting from the taxi stand at the airport.
Travel time Zone 1 Zone 2
Weekdays daytime 16 € 19 €
Night, weekend and public holiday 20 € 23 €
Night tariff is applied between 22.00 and 07.00.
For this reason, the cost of a trip to the same address may vary depending on the day and time of the trip.
Which districts are in the 16 euro zone?
The first zone covers the following Lisbon freguesias relatively close to the airport:
Alvalade, Areeiro, Avenidas Novas, Beato, Lumiar, Marvila, Olivais, Parque das Nações, Penha de França and Santa Clara.
For eligible journeys to these regions, the flat fee on weekdays is 16 euros.
Night and weekend tariff is 20 euros.
Which districts are in the 19 euro zone?
The second region covers the following freguesias:
Ajuda, Alcantara, Arroios, Belém, Benfica, Campolide, Campo de Ourique, Carnide, Estrela, Misericórdia, Santa Maria Maior, Santo António, São Domingos de Benfica and São Vicente.
Thus, a significant part of the regions frequently visited by tourists, such as Baixa, Chiado, Alfama, Bairro Alto and Belém, fall into the second tariff.
In these areas, 19 euros are applied during the weekdays and 23 euros at nights and weekends.
Are there different fares for larger taxis?
For vehicles capable of carrying more than four passengers, different prices may apply if five or more passengers are carried.
In this case, the daytime tariff is 20 euros for the first zone and 23 euros for the second zone.
During nights, weekends and public holidays the amounts are 24 and 28 euros respectively.
However, just because the vehicle is large does not automatically mean that high tariffs should be applied for four or fewer passengers.
Why doesn't the system work at full capacity on the first day?
One of the important details of the regulation that came into force on October 15 is the gradual implementation of driver accreditation and inspection infrastructure.
According to the statement of taxi industry representative ANTRAL, accreditation applications started at 11:00 on October 15.
Drivers and taxi companies can start their applications online.
Following the application, the necessary documents must be submitted to the relevant professional organizations.
However, all drivers must have completed their accreditation procedures by October 15. not expected.
According to the statement of Federação Portuguesa do Táxi President Carlos Silva, in the first stage, taxi drivers who have not yet been accredited will be able to work at the airport stop.
For this reason, the first day of implementation should be separated from the period when the full control system will come into effect.
What will change in November?
The new system aims to control the access of accredited taxis to the airport stop more regularly.
Technical solutions such as automatic license plate recognition are planned for this.
In addition, information boards are expected to be placed in the arrivals area and outside of the airport so that passengers can easily see the fixed prices.
Industry representatives anticipate that these regulations will be completed at the beginning of November.
However, this date is the target calendar for technical infrastructure. There is no guarantee that all systems will be ready on that day.
What will those who go to neighboring municipalities like Loures pay?
The new fixed tariffs cover defined areas within the boundaries of the Municipality of Lisbon.
For this reason, although they are very close to the airport, settlements such as Moscavide, Sacavém or Prior Velho in the municipality of Loures are not considered within the same scope.
Taxi industry representatives point out that this difference may create inconsistent results for passengers.
For example, a trip to Parque das Nações is a flat fee, while a trip just outside the municipal border The journey to the address can be calculated using the taximeter.
Therefore, it is important for passengers to check which municipality their destination address is located in.
Can payment be made by card?
The new protocol foresees the use of electronic payment options.
Debit card and MB Way are among these methods.
The passenger should not be charged additional fees due to the payment method.
However, in the first days of the application, if there are problems with the drivers' technical equipment and compliance with the protocol, it is possible for passengers to apply to official complaint channels.
Are TVDE vehicles also subject to a fixed tariff?
No.
TVDE platforms such as Uber and Bolt are not covered by the taxi protocol.
Fees for these services are determined according to the platforms' own pricing systems.
Additionally, the new fixed tariff does not automatically cover all taxi trips from Lisbon city center to the airport.
The protocol is for certain journeys starting from the taxi stand at the airport.
What should passengers do?
People who will use a taxi from Lisbon Airport must check the arrival address, valid timetable and the scope of application of the vehicle before the journey begins.
The aim of the fixed fee application is to increase price transparency, especially for tourists and newcomers to Portugal.
However, since the inspection infrastructure was not fully established in the early days, passengers had to verify the fare information in advance. even more important.
