Breathtaking Rescue in Leça da Palmeira: A Policeman's Life-Giving Bravery

A heartbreaking incident took place last Sunday in the north of Portugal, on the Leça da Palmeira side. When they received a report that a young man had jumped into the river from the Leça Moving Bridge, the teams quickly arrived in the area. When they arrived at the scene, the 26-year-old young man was struggling to survive in the middle of the water.

In those critical seconds when time was against him, one of the arriving PSP (Portuguese Police) officers did not hesitate. He took off his uniform and threw himself into the cold waters of the Leça River within seconds.

Race in Seconds and Transfer to Hospital

Despite the current and risks, the police officer quickly reached the young man and managed to keep him on the surface of the water until the Marine Police teams caught up with the boat. The first aid to the young man who was taken out of the water was given by the emergency medical team (VMER) waiting on the shore.

The treatment of the young man, who was immediately taken to Pedro Hispano Hospital with suspicion of internal fracture due to falling from a height, continues. While the PSP organization appreciated the courageous and self-sacrificing reflex of its colleagues, it reminded once again that the main thing is to save lives.
