The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a yellow warning for 11 counties on the mainland due to the expectation of high maximum temperatures.

The warning covers the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre. According to IPMA's current timetable on the morning of September 2, the warning will be valid between 10.00-19.00 on Thursday, September 3.

On the Portuguese mainland, highest temperatures are expected to remain in the range of 34-38 degrees in many regions. Values ​​reaching 40-42 degrees can be seen in the inland areas south of Serra da Estrela, especially in the Tejo Valley, Beira Baixa and Alentejo.

Temperatures are expected to remain lower in coastal areas. However, Lisbon and Setúbal are also among the districts under yellow warning.
