GNR detained five people in the investigation of house robberies: 212 thousand euros worth of gold was seized

Five people were detained in a six-month investigation against a group that allegedly targeted houses in different regions in Portugal. Approximately 212 thousand euros worth of gold, 22,520 euros in cash, vehicles, weapons and various items were seized during the GNR operation.

The investigation is linked to incidents against residences, especially in villages and isolated settlements, in the regions of Lisboa, Setúbal, Leiria, Beja and Santarém.

Since there is no final conviction against the suspects, the accusations will be evaluated during the investigation and trial process.

The investigation lasted approximately six months

According to GNR's statement, the investigation continued for approximately six months.

Authorities suspect the suspects of breaking into residences and outbuildings, especially in villages and more isolated areas, and taking money, gold and other valuables.

Within the scope of the operation, a total of 16 searches were carried out, including six houses and 10 vehicles.

What was seized?

According to the inventory announced by GNR, during operation:

22,520 euros in cash,

gold worth approximately 211,979.90 euros,

18 branded watches,

seven vehicles,

four mobile phones,

two firearms,

59 bullets

and various tools that could have been used to open doors or other entry points were seized.

When gold and cash are evaluated together, the seized value exceeds 230 thousand euros.

Suspects were detained in Lisboa and Odivelas

Ages 18 Five men, aged between 50 and 50, were detained in the municipalities of Lisboa and Odivelas.

GNR is conducting the investigation on suspicion of roubo, associação criminosa, furto qualificado and illegal possession of firearms.

Additionally, a 52-year-old woman was included in the file as a suspect.

PSP's Lisboa Metropolitan Command also supported the operation and a total of 113 security officers took part.

Why especially isolated houses?

In the GNR statement, it is stated that the targets are houses and outbuildings, especially in villages and isolated settlements.

In such areas, the fact that the residences are far from each other and there are fewer people around can be an advantage for the perpetrators in some theft cases.

However, the fact that the operation took place does not mean that there is a general new crime wave in these regions.

The announced investigation relates to a specific group of suspects and specific events.
