A different pace after dark
Trilho das Bruxas brings Halloween into a northern Portuguese autumn landscape. A familiar path feels different once daylight disappears; surprises along the way are part of the evening.
It starts around a market and meeting point before moving onto the trail. Allow time after the walk rather than planning an immediate drive home.
How the evening unfolds
The Feirinha das Bruxas opens at 6 pm. Check-in runs from 6.30 to 8 pm; the walk takes place from 8 to around 11 pm. The queimada and esconjuro follow at 11.30 pm, with caldo no pote soup also part of the event.
The meeting point is Núcleo Museológico de Vilarinho das Furnas, at the Campo do Gerês park entrance. The route is roughly five kilometres.
Check availability first
Published admission is €17.50 for adults and €10 for children up to 12. Both include soup and an event bowl; the adult ticket also includes a cup for the queimada.
On 11 October, the booking page displayed “Indisponível” for both ticket types. This alone does not establish cancellation. Although the announced registration deadline is 25 October, confirm spaces with the organiser before booking travel or accommodation.
Is it your kind of evening?
The organiser does not recommend it for children under eight because of the scares. Pets are not admitted. Choose shoes for wet ground and layers suited to the forecast.
In poor weather, an alternative programme may be used; the published conditions state that tickets are not refundable for that reason. Read them before booking. For people who enjoy the forest after dark, this could be a memorable alternative to the usual Halloween party.
