Spanish tourist died in hotel fire in Fátima

A Spanish woman in her 60s died in a fire that broke out after midnight in a hotel in Fátima. The fire was confined to a single room; 53 people were removed from the hotel as a precaution.

A woman in her 60s, who was part of a Spanish tourist group, died in a fire that broke out in a hotel in the city of Fátima, in the municipality of Ourém, Portugal.

According to the Central Tejo Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, the report was made at 00.39. The fire was extinguished at 01.06. Fátima Volunteer Fire Department reported that the flames were confined to the room where the woman was staying.

Due to the spread of smoke, 53 people in the hotel were evacuated as a precaution. Fátima and Ourém fire brigades, the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM), the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Judicial Police (PJ) were dispatched to the scene. 28 personnel and 10 vehicles served in the intervention.

The cause of the fire and the circumstances of the death are being investigated by the Judicial Police. Authorities have not released any other death or injury information so far.
