Warning to Those Using Cais do Sodré Metro Station: Things Are Changing in August

There is a development that will attract the attention of those who deal with public transportation in Lisbon, especially those who pass by in these directions. Cais do Sodré metro station, one of the city's key points, was temporarily closed between 8 August and 26 August. It is a fact that, although such line work is annoying, the size of the projects running in the background changes the nature of the work.

Why Was It Closed and How Does the Line Work?

This cut is made within the scope of the Linha Circular projects, which have been on the agenda for a long time. Metro management states that this period is essential for harmonizing the existing infrastructure with the new system and completing the signaling works.

Currently, services on the Green Line operate between Telheiras and Baixa-Chiado for those traveling between these dates. For those who want to go to the Cais do Sodré side, alternatives have been put into effect:

Blue Line: You can travel on foot or by bus using Terreiro do Paço station.

Carris Buses and Trams: Lines such as 760, 728, 15E, 25E and 732, which run from main points such as Martim Moniz, Praça da Figueira, Rossio and Chiado towards Cais do Sodré, shoulder the extra load.

Target 2027: What Will the New Era Bring?

These infrastructure moves are actually the footsteps of the new circular line project, which is expected to come into operation in the first quarter of 2027. This new system will connect Rato and Cais do Sodré; It will also add two new stations to the network: Estrela and Santos. When it is finished, it looks like the transitions between Cascais trains, river connections and the city's central axis will be relieved considerably.

The shutdown time is not too long; The station will reopen its doors on August 27 as planned. Therefore, if you happen to be between these dates, it would be useful to take a look at the departure times and alternative bus routes in advance.
