Brent oil reached 100 dollars again: New pressure for gasoline and diesel prices in Portugal

The barrel price of Brent oil rose above the $100 level again for a short time on the morning of September 9. Brent has risen nearly 25 percent since the beginning of August

The movement in the oil market is not just a one-day jump.

At the heart of the rise are conflicts in the Middle East and risks related to critical routes through which oil is transported to world markets.

The increase in security risks around the Red Sea, which has become one of the alternative routes especially after the decrease in flows in the Strait of Hormuz, strengthens the supply concerns in the market.

Why is Portugal following the Brent price closely?

The increase in Brent does not mean that prices at gas stations in Portugal will increase on the same day and at the same rate.

Crude at pump price In addition to oil, refining costs, international product quotations, logistics, distribution margins, euro/dollar exchange rate and taxes are also effective.

However, since Portugal is dependent on oil imports, it may become inevitable that a long-term rise in international energy prices will be reflected in the domestic market.
