New development in the incident where a Swedish tourist was shot in Baixa: Arrest measures against three suspects

A new phase has been initiated in the investigation into the armed incident that took place in August in Baixa, one of the most touristic areas of Lisbon, and resulted in a bullet wound to a Swedish tourist.

Three suspects, aged between 21 and 32, were faced with severe measures restricting their freedom after their first judicial interrogation.

The incident took place on August 10

According to the information provided by the investigation authorities, the incident occurred on August 10, during a conflict between two groups in the Baixa district of Lisbon.

It is claimed that the groups are committing fraud by selling pressed bay leaves to tourists as a drug.

A firearm was used during the conflict.

A Swedish tourist, who was not involved in the incident, was injured in the chest area with a bullet.

Three suspects surrendered

The suspects surrendered to the authorities on Tuesday, September 15, and were detained by the Polícia Judiciária.

They were then taken to the first judicial interrogation at the Campus de Justiça.

There are different statements about the nature of the measure implemented in different news sources. While some initial news used the phrase "prisão preventiva", later news reported that the suspects would be kept at home with electronic handcuffs.
