Leaving Cars Aside and Walking: A Good Step from Oleiros

Oleiros is a quiet, breathing place that does not have the chaos of big metropolises. Now they have made a very appropriate decision that will take this calmness and quality of life one step further. The municipality has officially joined the "Walkable Cities and Towns Network".

So what exactly does this mean? This network, run by the Cities and Towns Mobility Institute (ICVM), aims to free the streets from the domination of cars and hand them over to pedestrians. With this step, Oleiros Municipality not only becomes a member of a union; Municipal teams will receive special technical training on sustainable transportation and will have the opportunity to examine good examples in Europe on site.

Direct Support for Pedestrian-Friendly Projects

The most practical and field-touching part of the job is funding support. ICVM will directly guide the municipality in the application process for European Union and national level grant programs. So the town's sidewalks, pedestrian paths and accessibility standards won't just be lip service; It will be renewed with a serious budget and expert support.

We want to see towns where we enjoy walking on the streets and where everyone can move around freely, regardless of the disabled or the elderly. I hope this step taken by Oleiros will inspire other settlements of a similar scale.
