Algarve on Fire: Faro on Yellow Alert Due to Sustained Temperatures!

The weather in the south is as you know... The heat in the Algarve region, famous for its sun and sea, has started to become more than serious.

According to the latest data reported by The Portugal News and Lusa, the Portuguese Marine and Atmospheric Institute (IPMA) has decided to extend the yellow warning for the Faro region. This warning will continue uninterruptedly from 10:00 in the morning on August 6 to 22:00 on August 8, especially due to the fact that thermometers are at their peak in inland areas.

For those who don't know, let's say; Yellow alert is the mildest level on IPMA's three-tiered risk scale, but "the fact that it has been going on for several days straight" requires extra caution for anyone spending time outdoors.

Fire Risk Has Reached Its Maximum Level

Not only the heat, but also the well-known danger brought by the scorching heat: Forest fires.

When we look at the map of IPMA, the picture looks a little red:

Highest Risk: A dozen municipalities in Bragança, Guarda, Santarém and Faro are today directly in the "highest fire risk" zone. Rising temperatures in the inner regions have turned these places into a kindling box.

Very High Risk: Approximately 80 municipalities in 10 different regions, from Bragança to Faro, from Coimbra to Castelo Branco and Santarém, are at "very high risk".

High Risk: The entire Alentejo region and more than 40 municipalities, including Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro and Leiria, are included in the "high risk" map.
