Operation Like a Movie on the Alentejo Road: Former Serbian Football Player Caught with 70 Million Euros of Cocaine

This time, the serene, vast Alentejo landscapes of Portugal became the scene of a massive narcotics operation, reminiscent of a Hollywood movie. What emerged from an ordinary-looking minibus stopped on the A6 highway near Estremoz once again showed how critical border security and police cooperation are.

Behind the wheel was 31-year-old former Serbian football player Uros Milosevic, whose name football fans may remember from the lower leagues.

1.5 Tons of Cocaine and Loaded Military Weapons Found in the Minibus

More than 1.5 tons of high-purity cocaine with a market value of over 70 million euros were seized in the vehicle, which was stopped as a result of the pursuit carried out jointly by Polícia Judiciária (PJ) teams with the Spanish National Police (Policía Nacional). The real detail that increased the gravity of the situation was that the two military-grade firearms in the vehicle were loaded with bullets, meaning they were ready for conflict at any time.

According to the details of the investigation, Milosevic was working as a courier on behalf of the Iberian cell of the famous "Balkan Cartel", which was based in the south of Spain and fed the European market. An important link in the chain that received tons of drugs from Latin America from the Portuguese coast and distributed them to Europe via the Iberian Peninsula has been broken.

Network Extended to Spain: Total 3.35 Tons of Drugs

The operation was not limited to this highway raid; Across the border, two more Serbian citizens connected to the network were captured in Spanish territory. The total amount of cocaine seized in the chain of operations carried out in both countries reached 3.35 tons.

The former football player, who hung up his cleats in 2022 and turned to international criminal organizations, was arrested by the court and sent to the prison adjacent to the PJ center in Lisbon.
