Frightening Night in the Heart of Albufeira: Vehicle Crashes into Pedestrians in Oura

Algarve is the escape point for most of us during the summer months, the heart of entertainment and holiday. Especially the famous Oura area (Rua da Oura) in Albufeira is known for its high energy that does not end until the morning. But unfortunately, we started this Tuesday morning not with the joyful voices rising from those streets, but with the sounds of sirens. Just when the holidaymakers were enjoying the night, news of a rather unpleasant and frightening accident broke.

Siren Sounds at Three in the Night

Around 03:13 at night, a vehicle plowed into pedestrians on Oura bar street. You know more or less how crowded and lively that area can be at those hours. Four people were injured in the accident; Unfortunately, one of them is in serious condition. Immediately after the notice, the region was literally surrendered to red-blue lights. A total of 58 emergency personnel and 13 response vehicles were dispatched to the scene, which clearly shows how serious the situation on the field is. The injured were immediately transferred to health centers in Faro, Portimão and Albufeira.

Warning Shot to Driver Trying to Escape

The even more annoying and infuriating part is that the driver tried to escape with his vehicle after the accident. GNR (National Republican Guard) teams had to intervene in the situation so quickly and decisively that warning shots were fired into the air to stop the man.

The blood alcohol level of the 35-year-old man behind the wheel, who was finally caught before he could escape, was over 1.2 g/l. As you know, in Portugal this rate already exceeds legal limits and directly constitutes a serious crime. The driver is being held in custody and will appear directly before the judge today. In addition, NICAV teams specialized in traffic accidents examined the scene until the first light of the morning to clarify all the details.

It really saddens us all that the lack of control caused by excessive alcohol consumption in holiday resorts leads to such disasters. I hope that the injured in the hospital, especially the person in serious condition, will recover as soon as possible. While wandering around here, it is useful to keep your eyes open, especially on the streets where entertainment venues are busy late at night.
