Correction from FENPROF to the information "There is a teacher strike on October 6": There is no new strike that stops classes

Federação Nacional dos Professores (FENPROF) made a statement following social media posts and some news about a new teacher strike affecting schools in Portugal on October 6.

The Federation announced that it did not call for a new teacher strike that would halt classroom activities for October 6.

However, this does not mean that teachers do not carry out any strike action.

An action of a different nature and indefinite duration has been continuing since September 14.

What is the ongoing strike against?

The basic message is simple:

It is objected to make work that exceeds teachers' normal working hours mandatory without any remuneration.

Are classes stopping today?

According to FENPROF's statement, no.

The ongoing strike does not aim to stop normal class activities.

Teachers may participate in strikes regarding additional duties, overtime, or related non-letiva activities that exceed the designated working time while performing their normal teaching duties.

Therefore, the general statement that “Teachers went on strike in Portugal on October 6 and schools may close” is misleading.

It should not be confused with the October 2 strike

During a 24-hour strike by public employees last week, some schools closed or closed. could not provide service.

This was a separate union action.
