Government Boosts Police Reinforcements and Night Patrols in Matosinhos

Following urgent municipal security consultations, Portugal's Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) approved operational reinforcements for Public Security Police (PSP) units stationed in Matosinhos. The deployment aims to tackle recent spikes in nocturnal public disturbances and street crime across the Porto metropolitan district.
Reinforced mobile patrols and rapid response units will maintain active presence around metro hubs, waterfront commercial dining strips, and nightclub venues throughout peak evening hours.
Mayor Luísa Salgueiro confirmed that police staffing increases will be complemented by expanded municipal closed-circuit video surveillance coverage across high-traffic intersections.
The operational plan places dedicated liaison officers in direct contact with neighborhood merchant associations and residential councils.
Authorities stressed that mobile patrols equipped with automatic license-plate recognition technology will deter opportunistic criminal networks.
