Portugal’s parliament approved stopping the operating clock of its inquiry into rural-fire-related business and contracts from 23 October to 1 December 2026, inclusive.

The decision adopted on 21 October cites MPs’ participation in scrutiny of the 2027 budget. Chega and IL voted against, while the other parties supported it.

The pause does not close the inquiry or announce findings on the matters under examination. It suspends the running of its allotted period during the budget process.

MPs also approved a separate decision concerning standing committees, preserving exceptions for necessary budget meetings and urgent business.

The position of the inquiry into Luís Neves’s time at the PJ is to be decided separately. The rural-fire vote should therefore not be read as automatically imposing identical dates on every parliamentary investigation.
