ARTE, Portugal’s agency for state technological reform, warned on 21 October about fraudulent text messages using the Chave Móvel Digital name. They imitate communications associated with the public digital identity service.

According to the statement reported by Diário de Notícias, recipients may be encouraged to follow instructions or open links. The potential consequence is disclosure of personal information or authentication codes.

ARTE says national cybersecurity authorities are monitoring the situation and taking the necessary measures. Its warning concerns misuse of the service’s name to make messages appear trustworthy.

The agency stresses that it does not request personal data or bank-account information by text, email or telephone. Such a request is inconsistent with the communication practice it describes.

The announcement provides no confirmed victim count or total financial loss. It also does not announce a shutdown of Chave Móvel Digital or establish that all users’ accounts have been compromised.
