CGTP says it does not rule out another general strike over living costs and social rights. Its statement reported on 21 October does not, however, announce a strike or establish a date.

Organisers of housing encampments in Lisbon and Porto asked unions to call an Iberian general strike on 11 November. Responding to that appeal, CGTP said all forms of action remained open, including a general strike.

The confederation argued that the decision must reflect concrete conditions, objectives and the prospects for successful action. It warned against deciding hastily.

CGTP identified wages, pensions, education, social protection, health services and housing among its concerns. Lusa was still awaiting a response from UGT when its report appeared.

A date proposed by a protest movement is not equivalent to a formal union strike call. Workers and service users should therefore not read the statement as confirmation that transport or workplaces will shut down on 11 November.
