Government and unions open second round of talks on 2027 public sector pay

Portugal's government is holding a second round of negotiations on public sector pay for 2027 on Monday, 19 October. The announced timetable has the STE-led Frente Sindical meeting at 9.30am, Fesap at 10.30am and Frente Comum at 4pm.
Agreement and demands differ
The multi-year agreement signed by the government, Fesap and STE provides for a 2.30% increase in 2027, with a minimum rise of €60.52. Meeting that target would raise the public sector base salary from €934.99 to €995.51. Fesap is seeking at least 6.5% or €95 and a €1,050 base salary. Frente Comum wants at least 15% or €150, alongside a €1,150 base salary.
No new settlement announced
Unions are pressing for stronger protection of purchasing power in response to inflation expectations. For public employees, today's agenda concerns negotiations rather than the announcement of a new pay settlement. The demands should not be treated as confirmed payroll entitlements; the outcome and applicable arrangements still need to be announced.
